If you are looking for new faucets for your kitchen, a good idea
is to buy discount kitchen faucets. These days, many
manufacturers offer attractive options at even more attractive
prices. There are many interesting types available and you can
buy them based on size, shapes, handles, functionality, finish
and many other considerations.

Whether you want to just replace your old faucet or add a new
one in the kitchen, you have to consider a few important points.
You must be aware of the many types of discount kitchen faucets
available in the stores and the advantages and disadvantages of
each.

The main types are single handle, pullout sprayers, wall mounted
and two handle. Even if you want to try the discount kitchen
faucets, you have to be aware of the quality of purchase, as you
do not want to scamper to the stores within a few years. The
single handle types have just one lever and allow quick water
flow. The dual handle types have separate handles for hot and
cold water. Depending upon how you want the flow of water and
control of temperature, you may select either of the two. So,
make sure you try each in the showroom and learn as much as
possible about them.

One of the favorite features of discount kitchen faucets is the
pull out sprayer. This allows water to be taken beyond the sink
with the help of a pipe and special nozzle. Again, you may have
to consider the shape and size for convenience. You may also
want to coordinate the faucets with the interior decor of the
kitchen. So buy the style that suits the overall look. There are
many finishes available and each has its own merit. Whether you
like shiny stainless steel or dull brass, you can get it all in
beautiful designs.

“Fix leaky shower faucet in a jiffy”, screamed the eyeball grabbing title of an article on the Internet. Now before you dismiss this as utter drivel, look beyond the hyperbolic headlines, and listen to what the experts have to say. Fixing that leaky shower faucet in your bathroom, and that too without any professional assistance, is not that prosperous a proposal. All it takes is a few very functional tools, a modicum of your time and a hard-to-torpedo attitude, and your leaky faucet becomes a thing of the past.

End To That Niggling Problem

Here’s a tenuous contention that displays the traditional proclivity to raise the hackles. But before your temper assumes rampaging dimensions, take a look at how you can put an end to your consternation:

Cut off the water supply to the shower faucet, either in the bathroom or in the main cut off valve in the basement.

Open the faucet to drain the water in it completely.

Get to the root of the problem by removing the faucet handle screw, located underneath the snap on cover, with the help of a knife or screwdriver. This is achieved by turning the screw clockwise.

It’s now time for the faucet handle to come off. At times, a slightly recalcitrant handle may be stuck to the stem, and comes out only after a few knocks with a hammer handle.

Look for the rubber gasket inside, and inspect its condition. In case it coats your hand with a black deposit, it’s time to abandon it for a brand new one.

Place the new ring flat inside the shower head assembly. It’s important to make sure that it fits perfectly.

Retighten the handle, without the use of too much force. Similarly, thread the shower head into its designated place.

The Moment You’ve Waited For

It’s now time to turn on the water and see if you deserve a pat on the back. But what if things don’t pan out the way you planned? Relax; just unscrew the shower head, re screw it, and tighten the handle a little more. If it’s still as intractable as before, call a professional to bail you out.

Did you know that stopping a leaky shower faucet can be easy ? See http://www.SpicyKitchens.com

How To Fix A Leaky Faucet
By Jamie Rackenthaler

Leaky faucets can waste huge amounts of water; even if the drip is small. The good news is that they are simple to fix, in most cases. To fix a leaky faucet, at the very least, you will need a Phillips Screwdriver, small flathead screwdriver, faucet seat, rubber stem gasket, and a seat remover tool.

Step #1

Don’t forget this step because it will save you a lot of work. Many people overlook this step. Determine if the water coming out is hot or cold. If it’s hot you will replace the hot side and vice versa for cold.

Step #2

Look under the sink and turn off the water. There should be two knobs; one hot and one cold. Turn off the handle that corresponds to the heat of the water leaking. If the water is hot, turn off hot and vice versa for cold. If the handle is difficult to turn, use channel lock pliers or a pipe wrench to turn the handle. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops turning.

Replace Water Handles, If necessary

In some cases, you may end up replacing the water handles. Some water handles will leak right out the handle or become immovable. Many homes have the absolutely lowest quality water handle valves. By the very nature of touching them, they will break. Hint, don’t replace with the cheapest valves you can find. Spend a few extra dollars for a better valve.

To replace the valves, first turn off the water to the house. Then, simply unscrew the old valve with channel lock pliers. Install the new valve by putting on teflon tape threads three times clockwise (around the threads). Screw new valve on clockwise with channel lock pliers or a pipe wrench.

Step #2

The hot and cold faucet handles have a plastic insert on the top of them. There will often be an H (for hot) or a C (for cold) on the faucet handles. Use a small screwdriver to remove the plastic insert.

Step #3

You should now have two handle screws exposed. The screws should be Phillips type. Take your Phillips Screwdriver (size #2 is usually good), and take off the screws holding on the handles.

Step #4

Don’t expect the handle to come off easily. Many are very difficult to get off. Pry the handle off or just pull like *#$%&@#. You could buy a handle puller, but it’s mostly a waste of money. You can do it without one.

Step #5

Once you get the handle off, you will be looking at a faucet valve stem. Remove the valve stem with a crescent wrench. If you don’t have a crescent wrench or socket type wrenches, channel locks will do the job.

Step #6

You will need a seat wrench tool. Without one, you can’t do the job. Place seat wrench tool in stem hole, turn counter clockwise, and remove the seat. You will also need a new faucet seat. Take the seat to your local plumbing store (not home depot or lowes) and get one that is the right size. Replace the new seat with your seat wrench. Be very careful not to push the on the seat wrench too hard with downward pressure because it will damage the new seat. You may not notice at first, but you may get a leaky faucet in only a year or two.

Step#7

Examine the faucet valve stem. In most cases, the rubber gasket on the small end is worn out. You see, once the faucet starts leaking people start turning the water handle really hard. This extra pressure usually damages this rubber gasket. Simply unscrew the gasket with a Phillips screwdriver and put on a new one. If you run into troubles, you can always replace the valve stem.

Step #8

Replace valve stem, handle, and plastic insert. Turn the water back on and test the faucet. If this is your first time doing it, plan on doing it twice. Good Luck. It’s not as hard as you might think.

Fixing a leaky bathtub faucet - or any other leaky faucet for that matter - can be an expensive job - UNLESS you can do it yourself!

In this article we want to look at the most common reason for a leaky faucet and show you how to fix it quickly and cheaply.

Preparation

It almost goes without saying that you should turn the water off first! Where to find the handle that does that? Just look under your sink and see where the pipes run. Somewhere along their length you will see either a handle or a wheel you can use to shut the mains supply off. In nearly every case you will need to turn it clockwise to shut.

One other preparation is to block the sink drain - just to prevent a nasty accident with something loose (like a screw or a small nut) disappearing down the drain never to be seen again. Use the plug you normally use, or put some cloth into the aperture. No good being wise after the event!

And - even though it goes without saying - make sure you have bought a replacement washer (or two) from the local hardware store - you don’t want to be looking for that when you have the faucet in pieces do you!

Action

Locate the screw that is holding the handle of the faucet in place (it may be hidden behind a small plate or cover and that cover needs to be prised off using a small screwdriver or similar). Then undo the screw.

The next job is to get the handles off. Use a screwdriver to do this - you might need to use a little bit of force to prise it but it will come.

Now you will see the old washer (don’t worry if not, we will put one in place anyway). Take off the old washer and replace with the new. Notice that the hole in the washer should just be a touch bigger than the central post that the handle turns.

Now retighten the handle, but only hand tight i.e. only until it stops turning without extra force needing to be applied.

Next, turn on the water again and see what happens! If there’s no leak you’re home and dry (excuse the pun!). If it still leaks, try tightening the handle a little more.

If it still leaks after that- then the problem is elsewhere and you’ll need to get a plumber after all. But al least it was worth a try!

(And by the way - if you notice a big build up of lime around the handle - clean that off with a special removal product from your hardware store - it will pay you in the long run).

Things needed

A screwdriver or two - maybe one flathead and one Phillips or cross-screw. Also two washers (maybe take the old one off ahead of your visit to the store to be sure of getting the right one, or just buy a pack of mixed washers - not an expensive buy).

different brand of faucets ever again. This is one if the best
brand names you will ever find in a faucet. While you are faucet
shopping, you are sure to find many brand names, and will
probably wonder if you can repair or have your faucet repaired
instead of replacing it. There is only one way to find out, hire
a contractor to see about repairs to your faucet.

When you are thinking of hiring someone to repair your grohe
faucet, you will want to first of all make sure that the person
you hire knows what he is doing. The best way to find this out
is to ask for references. When you ask for references you will
have a list of people that the contractor has repaired faucets
for before, and they can tell you how well of a job he did on
theirs. Be sure that you ask them if they would use him again if
necessary as well as recommend him to others for faucet repairs.
This will give you a good idea of how well the person you are
considering can do his job.

Another thing that you are going to want to take into
consideration when you are looking for someone to repair your
grohe faucet would be wether or not they are insured and bonded.
When you find a contractor that is insured as well as bonded,
you are sure to be covered in the event of any mishap with your
faucet. The contractor will be covered as well, and no matter
how big the mishap might be, the insurance is sure to fix it for
you. This is an excellent thing that you should remember when
you are looking for a professional to do the job for you.

Anytime that you might be wondering about the professional
reputation about someone that you are hiring to repair your
grohe faucets or any other faucets, you can always go to the
better business bureau to see if anyone has filed a complaint.
This where most unsatisfied customers go to complain about work
or services that they have received that were less than
satisfactory.

As you can see, hiring a professional contractor to repair your
grohe faucet is not hard to do. There are steps that you can
take to make sure that the person you are considering to hire is
a professional as well as good at what they do. When you take
all of the necessary steps that you should to get a
professional, you are sure to get the job done right.

extend out over the sink. These are perfect for a bathroom that
does not have a hole drilled in the sink or countertop. Many
homeowners of antique style sinks install this style of faucets.
A tip for do it yourselfers is to make sure the faucet extend
out over to the center of the sink and above the drain.

If you are not comfortable with doing your own plumbing then
hire a professional contractor to make sure the job is done
properly. The water supply runs up behind the sink in these
situations. Many interior designers implement this style of
faucet into their bathroom designs. If you purchase any of the
top designer magazines that focus on bathrooms, you will see
these types of faucets in many of the new design styles.
Bathroom wall mounted faucets are also becoming popular with
vessel sinks. Many homeowners that are re-modeling their
bathrooms choose these exotic style sinks to add value, beauty
and uniqueness to their homes. The bathroom is not the only room
that you can install one of these faucets. They look good in
some kitchens as well.

There are affordable choices when it comes to choosing bathroom
wall mounted faucets. Some of the more popular manufacturers of
these popular products are Kohler and Moen. Regardless of the
brand you choose, you will have added style and grace to your
bathroom or kitchen. If you are wondering where you can find
these types of faucets, you can likely find them at any plumbing
supply center, along with home supply centers and big box home
improvement centers. A quick search on the internet can help you
narrow down your choice of style.

Many websites offer a full supply of different styles of
bathroom wall mounted faucets. You do not have to make your
purchase online if you are not comfortable with it. If you do
decide to make your purchase online, do not forget that you will
likely be charged for shipping and handling as well.

Regardless of the design and style of your kitchen, a copper
kitchen faucet is a fine addition. They come in many
different shapes and sizes and price ranges as well. There are
some important considerations when shopping for a new fixture.
One of the most important points to note is that the new fixture
must fit the current connections. In addition, make sure you
check to see how many mounting holes your kitchen sink has.

You must also make sure the new faucet will be easy to operate
when it is installed. Take measurements to find out if the new
sink will actually fit. A quality copper kitchen faucet must be
durable; relatively maintenance free and it should be suitable
with the current décor of your kitchen. Another key factor of a
good quality faucet is that it should not corrode or discolor
with regular usage.

A good quality copper kitchen faucet will cost a little more
than the basic chrome-plated models. Any faucet you have in your
home should last a long time. Therefore, select a durable
fixture that is at a price you are comfortable with paying. Do a
search on the internet to get an idea of all the different
styles, types and materials available when it comes to choosing
a new faucet for your kitchen.

The spout and handle or handles usually determine the style of a
copper kitchen faucet. Most people find that single-handed
faucets are much more convenient that two handled faucets. A
double handled unit allows for more precise water flow and
temperature. These units are also more stylish than the single
handled ones as well.

You will also need to keep in mind the height and reach of the
spout of the copper kitchen faucet. A standard faucet is usually
three to five inches high. These smaller units are better for
smaller or average size sinks. Some faucets are six to eight
inches high. These are better suited for large kitchen sinks.
You should also find out what accessories are available for your
particular setup.

If you want to make a useful home improvement that is affordable and easy for you to do, you can choose to do a faucet replacement and replace an old faucet with a new one. This will immediately improve the aesthetics of an old room and get rid of the irritating noise that a dripping and leaky faucet produces.

One of the first things you have to consider in faucet replacement is choosing the right faucet. Nowadays, there are many faucets available in the market that comes in a variety of types, styles, and combinations. But no matter, the first thing you should be worried about is whether the new faucet will fit the old sink.

Be informed that there are two possible ways for different supply connections. That is why you should determine what supply connection your faucet has - flexible copper supply inlet found in the center of unit, or one that is located under the hot and cold handles.

Before you start tinkering with the faucet, you have to do certain things. One of which is to shut off the main water supply. It is also best if you prepare the necessary tools and materials beforehand, including a penetrating oil in case mounting nuts are hard to pry loose. It is also recommended if you have someone to help you around with handing of tools while you do your work. And, don’t forget to plug the drain with rags to avoid small parts from going down the drain.

- Remove the old fixture

If your faucet contains a sprayer, first remove the nuts that secure the hose to the faucet body and also the spray head to the sink. Unhook the supply lines and set them aside. Using your wrench, loosen and remove the mounting nuts that hold the faucet body to the sink. If it is hard to pry loose, you can use penetrating oil.

Once faucet is removed, clean the sink from putty and mineral deposits by scraping it off (you can use a steel wool).

- Attach new faucet to the sink

You can use a rope of plumber’s putty or install a gasket either to the sink or to the faucet. Put the new faucet in place, making sure that it is parallel to the backsplash. Move under the sink and ask someone to hold the faucet for you while you work. Screw on a washer and mounting nut on every inlet, and tighten using basin wrench.

- Connect supply lines

Wrap inlet threads with Teflon tape or apply pipe joint compound on it. Twist supply line nut on the inlet and tighten it (by hand, then by wrench). Connect the other end of supply line to the shutoff valve in the same process.

If your faucet is using flexible copper inlets, you can do the same, but just keep in mind that no copper tubes should be twisted. Otherwise, the whole faucet might be destroyed.

- Connect and adjust the pop-up drain assembly

Insert a ball rod into opening found in the drain body and secure it using a nut provided. Slip the rod through the clevis strap and again secure it, this time using spring clips. Lower the rod and let it pass through the hole near the rear of the faucet sprout and upper end of clevis strap. Tighten thumbscrew, adjust rods, and set everything in place.

And with that, you have the steps to faucet replacement. Never would you have to call on a plumber again to do the work for you. Just follow the steps religiously, and you’ll be Mr. HandyMan in no time.
